Julia Doughty, MFA, Certified Yoga Teacher and Therapist, Holistic Health Practitioner

Julia Doughty has over 50 years of experience as a yoga practitioner, therapist, and teacher. She teaches Gentle Yoga to all levels of students and offers private sessions and therapy for those who have special physical needs.

Julia has taught writing courses independently as well as in community centers, colleges, and schools throughout California since 1989. As an instructor, her titles have included: California Arts Council Guest Artist, California Poet-in-the-Schools, San Diego Writing Center Writer-in-Residence, and Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry grant recipient.

Her plays have been produced in San Diego theatres, including The Fritz Theatre, Studio 856, the Bowery Theatre, and Sushi Performance Gallery. She was editor and contributing writer 2006-2011 for Ensemble Jourine: Art & Hybrid Writing by International Women and Ensemble Antholozine/Anthology. Many of her books are available as pdfs on her website.

Julia has been hiking and camping her whole life, and over the years became more familiar with the gifts western U.S. native plants offer to the holistic ecology of people and the environment. She has learned local plant wisdoms from Jane Thing Dumas (Kumeyaay) and Richard Bugbee (Luiseno), and western U.S. native herbology, derived from various Indians and others, from Michael Moore (the herbalist).
