Glenn Smith
J.D., LL.M., Professor of Constitutional Law (ret.)
Glenn Smith confesses to a lifelong interest in the intersection of law, government, and politics. This interest led him to Washington, D.C. to study Public Affairs as an undergraduate at George Washington University. Professor Smith’s interest also influenced his course selection and internships as a Root-Tilden Scholar at New York University School of Law. Before his recent retirement from California Western School of Law, Professor Smith taught constitutional law — with an emphasis on the procedures and dynamics of the U.S. Supreme Court — for four decades. Smith still teaches undergraduates as a visiting lecturer at UCSD; his large and popular classes include a seminar in which students role play current justices and advocates arguing actual controversies on the Court’s docket. Professor Smith is committed to advancing the public’s knowledge about law, the Constitution, and the Court. He regularly teaches courses to lifelong learners through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at UCSD and SDSU – and he is delighted to begin teaching courses at OASIS. He periodically contributes academic commentaries to legal and non-legal publications and participates in media interviews.
